Convergence

Ministry of Tribal Affairs plays a vital role in implementing welfare activities, programmes and schemes by other ministries, which are in line with the welfare of Scheduled Tribes. Various collaborative efforts are being made for achieving the larger objective of development of tribal communities by leveraging each other’s strengths through appropriate convergence.

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare

Ministry of Tribal affairs provides financial assistance to state governments and other ministries through ‘Grant-in-Aid’ to fill critical gaps in health and nutrition for tribal areas.

Tribal population is one of the most vulnerable sections of society, prone to infectious diseases like Tuberculosis (TB). The estimated prevalence of pulmonary TB is 703, per 100,000 is tribal population which is more than three times higher than the non-tribal counterparts. Joint efforts with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will have promising impact on the current status of TB among the tribal groups. A convergence plan has been prepared jointly by both the ministries for national, state and district level interventions. The convergent actions by MoTA are imperative to achieve the goal of Ending TB among tribal groups and the country entirely by the year 2025.

Ministry of Rural Development

The Ministry of Rural Development, through its flagship programme – Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM) is focused on improving the social and economic status of rural women. Joint efforts for implementing DAY-NRLM with tribal women have promoted 8.9 lakh scheduled tribe self-help groups (SHGs) in the country. The women’s collective provides variety of economic opportunities to the tribal women, improving their and their family’s socio-economic status. MoTA is responsible for state planning, beneficiary selection, livelihood asset creation, conducting PVTG projects, Van-Dhan Yojana, creation of market and representation of SRLM at state, district and block.

In addition to above, convergence with several other Ministries and government institutions is underway for the welfare of tribal communities of India. Some of the inter-departmental convergence initiatives are in the progress and mentioned as under –

  • MSME for making NSTFDC as implementing agency
  • Department of Science & Technology for geo-tagging assets
  • MeiTY on e-education and virtual classes
  • CDAC for online Learning Management System for EMRS
  • Ministry of Food Processing Industries for collaboration with Micro Processing Units
  • Rashtriya Kamdhenu Aayog for Eklavya Kamdhenu Project
